Paperhand Puppet Intervention's long-running summer puppet show opens Friday, Aug. 27, for the season. It takes place on select days at the Forest Theatre in Chapel Hill through Sept. 26 and moves over to the N.C. Museum of Art in Raleigh Oct. 1 to Oct. 3. The family-friendly show, called Unfolding Seeds: Invocations of Transformation, features puppets of all sizes. Read my earlier post for details.

Cary will host its annual Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, and 12:30 p.m., to 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 29, in downtown Cary. The event will feature live music, activities for kids and lots of food and drink vendors.

CINCH World's Toughest Rodeo stops at the PNC Arena for one show at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28. The event features bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding and more, including Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey. Tickets start at $15.

Mordecai Historic Park will host free tours this Friday, Aug. 27, and a fairy market on Saturday, Aug. 28. The park is near downtown Raleigh. Check our earlier post for details.

Girl Scout Troop #3890 will host a StoryWalk at Gold Park, 415 Dimmocks Mill Rd., Hillsborough St., starting Aug. 29. A kickoff celebration will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. StoryWalks feature the laminated pages of a picture book posted along a trail.

Apex Nature Park Amphitheatre will screen "Raya and the Last Dragon," starting at 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28. The outdoor screening is free. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are allowed. But get there early for seats.

The N.C. Museum of Art will host Mindful Museum: Family Growga Live from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28. The class incorporates yoga, art and basic mindfulness techniques and is best for ages 6 and up. It takes place outside. Tickets, which are $10.73, are required for all participants ages 7 and up.

And the N.C. Museum of Art will be offering a take-it, make-it kit from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28. Pick up a kit at the museum to make a paper canoe and glider at home. It's free.
