74-year-old man struck by lightning in Durham

A man was injured after being struck by lightning Thursday evening in Durham.

Authorities said a 74-year-old man was waiting in line for a food truck at the Fairfield Swim and Tennis Club at about 6:30 p.m. when lightning struck the umbrella he was holding.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to UNC Hospitals with serious burns, authorities said.

The man’s condition was unknown Thursday night.
