7-year-old Raleigh girl who was innocent bystander wounded during shooting
Raleigh police were searching for a suspect in a shooting in which a 7-year-old girl, an innocent bystander, was wounded Sunday evening when gunfire broke out in the neighborhood, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 8:15 p.m. in the 2800 block of Herndon Village Way, a Raleigh police spokesperson said.
The girl, who was not identified, was rushed to WakeMed for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.
Police said the girl was shot once in the arm and once in the back.
The gunfire occurred while the girl was outside a home, and it apparently came from across the street from where she was standing.
Police said they were still searching for a suspect, and it was not clear what prompted the gunfire.
Police said they do not believe the shooting involving the girl was related to an earlier shooting that was reported about 3 p.m. at Milburnie Road Apartments.
