A 4-year-old was taken to the hospital after running into the street and hitting a car in downtown Cary on Thursday evening.

Around 7 p.m., the child reportedly pulled away from her parents on the sidewalk in front of 121 E. Chatham Street.

The little girl pulled into the street, where there was heavy traffic. She ran into a car that was going, according to officials, around 10 mph.

Some witnesses said they heard the child screaming. Others say they saw emergency vehicles arriving on the scene.

According to officials, the girl had a small abrasion on her wrist and was taken to WakeMed out of an abundance of caution.

The driver had no injuries and the car was not damaged. Officials say the little girl did not seem seriously injured.

No charges were filed.
