A 4-year-old boy was found dead Thursday in Rocky Mount.

According to Rocky Mount police, EMS responded to a call of an unresponsive child around 10:30 a.m. at the Hampton Village apartment complex on Hurt Drive.

The boy was transported UNC Health Nash, where he was pronounced dead.

The boy's mother, Tiffany Henderson, 35, also had injuries that required medical attention.

Many residents woke up Thursday morning to the scene with many questions.

"Normally, it's a safe neighborhood," said Mekwan Battle, a resident in the area with a 4-year-old of his own. "We have cameras here, I have a Ring camera. I always have my daughter here playing, so I really want to know what's going on because I don't feel safe."

WRAL News asked Rocky Mount Chief of Police Robert Hassell if there were any injuries to the boy, but Hassell said he would not comment on the case.

"That investigation is still ongoing," Hassell said. "It would not be appropriate to mention anything the officers observered, but we are waiting on the autopsy to give us further insight on that."

Anyone with information is asked to call Rocky Mount Police Department at 252-972-1411 or CrimeStoppers at 252-977-1111.
