Third ex-athlete sues NC State for abuse from trainer

A third person has filed a lawsuit against NC State University for alleged sexual abuse by a trainer.

Former assistant athletic director and trainer Robert Murphy is the center of a months-long case involving three ex-athletes at NC State.

In February, a NC State athlete filed a lawsuit against Murphy. Kerry Sutton, who's representing Locke in his case against NC State and Murphy, alleged the abuse was systemic, and said she's "spoken with four men with similar claims so far."

The athletes said the university downplayed the abuse and both lawsuits carried alleged that State was aware of Murphy's behavior, and failed "to comply with federal Title IX regulations and NCSU non-discrimination policy."

Another case filed in August of 2022 accused Murphy of assaulting former NC State soccer player Ben Locke as many as 100 times.
