Raleigh man charged with DWI in fatal Wake County wreck

A 37-year-old man was killed in a two-car wreck on Interstate 540 near U.S. Route 401 in Wake County Saturday around 1:40 a.m., a spokesperson with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.

A 37-year-old man was killed in a two-car wreck on Interstate 540 near U.S. Route 401 in Wake County Saturday around 1:40 a.m., a spokesperson with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.

Barrod Heggs, 31, of Raleigh, is charged with felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired.

Heggs was a former football player for the University of Maryland.

The victim has been identified as Stanley Taybron, of Bailey, who was driving a Chevy Tahoe.

Troopers said Taybron’s car overturned, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Heggs, who was driving a Dodge Challenger was uninjured and taken to the Wake County Detention Center.
