The driver of a U-Haul truck has been charged after police say he led officers on a chase through the Garner area.

According to the Garner Police Department, officers on Sunday received a call about a male driver slumped over in the U-Haul near the intersection of U.S. Highway 401 and Garner Station Boulevard.

An officer located the U-Haul and attempted to stop it but said the driver refused to stop.

The chase started around 5:36 p.m. Officers used spike strips to try and stop the driver, but the driver kept driving several miles after hitting the spikes.

The chase ended when the driver of the U-Haul ran a red light at the intersection of Rock Service Station Road and N.C. Highway 42 and crashed.

Monday, the judge set a bond of $30,000 without electronic monitoring or $15,000 with it. She said the state is short on electronic monitoring systems.

Allison was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, including cuts to his face, and later taken into custody.

According to the Garner Police Department, the U-Haul was not reported stolen. The items inside were all personal items, including a mattress.

Police said an officer's patrol car was damaged by the spikes but no officers were injured during the chase or crash.
