3 people killed Monday in Cumberland Co. house fire

Three people died in a house fire on Monday in Cumberland County.

According to the Grays Creek Fire Department, firefighters received the call around 1:30 p.m.

At 3:30 p.m., Sky 5 flew over the home on Unicorn Drive in the Hope Mills area.

The Grays Creek Fire Department said firefighters pulled the three victims from the house and there was no one else inside.

The sheriff's office confirmed all three victims were adults. Grays Creek Fire Chief Logan Herndon added the victims were two women and one man.

Herndon said a relief valve on a propane tank on the property popped off, making the fire larger.

It is unclear how the victims are tied to each other, according to Herndon.

At least 10 firefighters were on site extinguishing hot spots and working among the debris. According to Herndon, fire crews had to shuttle water in because there were no fire hydrants in the area.

A large part of the roof was gone, and the home appeared badly damaged.

Yellow tape surrounded a large portion of the home and land.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but the sheriff's office said arson investigators are at the scene.
