A third death has been blamed on the winter storm that covered much of North Carolina in snow and ice Sunday and Monday.

According to Yadkin County Emergency Services Director Keith Vestal, a truck driver died Sunday from what appeared to be a heart attack while shoveling out his rig that got stuck at the height of the storm along Interstate 77.

Another death was a woman in hospice care who died in Haywood County when her oxygen supply was cut off due to a power outage.

The third death occurred in Mecklenburg County when a tree fell on a man.
