3 charged in Durham murder of 62-year-old man

Three people have been charged in connection with a Durham homicide from August.

On the afternoon of Aug. 24, officers found Maverick Deran Tatum with a gunshot wound in the 2400 block of Ashe Street.

Tatum, 62, died at the hospital from his injuries.

On Aug. 25, officers arrested and charged Iquwan Timmons, 22, of Durham, with murder in this case. On Wednesday, the U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested Avion Cox, 19, of Durham, on a first-degree murder charge. Both Timmons and Cox remain in the Durham County Jail with no bond.

Zakiya Bumpers, 19, of Durham, was charged in this case on Aug. 25 with obstruction of justice. Bumpers received a $5,000 secured bond and was released that same day.

Video from the shooting scene showed a car smashed into a power line pole. The car appeared to have bullet holes in the windshield.
