A video shared by a resident of Raleigh’s 5401 North subdivision showed a man with a shirt pulled over his head running up to a porch where a package was sitting.
As the man got closer to the door just after 11:40 a.m. Monday, the homeowner comes out. Then, the man approaching the door ran away empty-handed.

Typically, porch pirates wait for a delivery driver to drop off a package and take it once the driver leaves.
“It's really surprising because you wouldn't think that would happen in a neighborhood like this,” said 5401 North resident Juan Maggi.
Raleigh police said the man in the video is not a suspect at this time, but the encounter is currently under investigation.
“So, it’s been the buzz on the [neighborhood] Facebook page because we like to support each other here in the neighborhood,” 5041 North resident Lauren Jones said.
Authorities recommend having packages delivered to your job, purchasing a package lockbox or asking a neighbor to pick up packages when you aren’t home.
“I think that porch pirates are getting a little less afraid of being on camera,” said 5401 North resident Molly Maggi.
