It was less than two weeks ago when an EF-3 tornado heavily damaged Springfield Middle School in Wilson County.
With repairs still underway and the new school year right around the corner, the middle school is preparing to start classes with limited space for students.

The 6th and 7th grade wings of the school suffered serious damage to the walls and roof. The classrooms and other rooms in those wings were deemed a total loss.
A chain-link fence has been installed around the building while repairs are being made.
On Monday, Superintendent Lane Mills said he’ll share more on the progress they've made getting the school back open to students.
"There will still be some stuff on this side that is fenced off," Mills said. "The building is safe and functional."
The school plans to bring in mobile units to serve as temporary classrooms. It also plans to utilize the 8th grade wing and core of the school while the two damaged wings are rebuilt.
Builder Services of NC has been working to remove excess water and secure the roof and walls that were damaged. The company determined 75% of the structure is safe – and that students can return at the start of the school year, which begins next week.
Orientations are still scheduled to take place Tuesday at Lucama Elementary School, with 6th grade families meeting at 4:30 p.m., 7th grade families at 6 p.m. and 8th grade at 7 p.m.
The board will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m.
