Employee of Bull City United arrested on drug charges

A Durham County employee whose role is to help people turn away from criminal activity is now charged with crimes herself.

Court documents show Nicole Taybron was arrested Tuesday on felony and misdemeanor drug charges.

Taybron’s arrest comes only days after she was hired as an outreach worker for Bull City United, a group that gets funding from both the city and county of Durham.

Officers say she had seven grams of crack cocaine and intended to sell, deliver or manufacture it.

WRAL News has reported extensively on the Bull City United group – including recent concerns from community members about its efficacy.

The group’s model is to hire people who are “credible messengers” in local neighorhoods and to steer high-risk individuals away from violence.
