The board is now turning to the District Attorney for help in removing Johnston from office.

Johnston County School Board Chair Todd Sutton told WRAL News that he formally asked District Attorney Susan Doyle to step in and review the findings of an investigation.

The investigation is to determine whether Johnson violated any laws that govern public officials.

Board members previously brought up that Johnson was accused by staff members of abusing his power as a board member.

The board voted 6 to 1 on Wednesday to censure Johnson.
