Montgomery County native and longtime WRAL anchor Charlie Gaddy will be inducted into the Montgomery County Hall of Honor at Friday night's Montgomery Central home football game.
Gaddy, who grew up in Biscoe, was sometimes called "the Walter Cronkite of North Carolina television" for his calm, comforting delivery that made him a dependable figure synonymous with the station.

Gaddy was the primary anchor of WRAL's evening newscasts, winning numerous awards and becoming one of the most successful local news anchors in television history for three decades. One of his crowning moments at the station was when he talked with a hostage and eventually a hostage-taker during the siege of The Robesonian Newspaper in February of 1988 while live on the air.
He recalled listening to Edward Murrow's reports as a youngster with his father. That experience led to a love for broadcasting and eventually becoming a trusted and reputable voice for news in North Carolina. His final newscast came on July 1, 1994.
Gaddy never outgrew his home county, as he served on the Save the Old Biscoe School Committee, which led to preserving the school as a community center.
The Guilford College graduate served in the Army and is the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame and Raleigh Hall of Fame.
Gaddy turns 91 in September.
Eddie Coleman, Judy Stevens and John Wallace will also be inducted into the Hall of Honor during halftime of the game.
The Timberwolves host Union Pines at 7:30 p.m.
