Kevin Munn, who pleaded guilty to terrorizing a Lake Gaston couple in 2018 – beating and tying up the husband, setting the house on fire and forcing the wife to withdraw money, was found unresponsive Friday morning in a cell at the Granville County jail.

Munn was listed as a witness in the upcoming trial of his co-defendant, Lester Kearney. The men were both charged with the murder of Nancy Alford.
In taking a plea, Munn had pointed the finger at Kearney. He later tried to withdraw that plea, saying he had been pressured into it, but a judge refused to allow it.
Kearney's attorneys say Munn only accused Kearney to avoid a possible death sentence and that their client was using his cellphone at his girlfriend's home 10 miles away when Nancy Alford and her husband, John Alford, were attacked.
That may all be moot if Munn does not survive. Mike Waters, who is district attorney for Granville, Vance, Warren, Person and Franklin counties and who is prosecuting the case, said he was made aware Friday that Munn had been hospitalized and his cellmate was dead.
The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into what happened to leave them that way.
Munn's attorney, Tommy Manning, told WRAL News he saw this client a few days ago and that he was in good spirits.
