Cumberland County detectives are looking for information in a two-year-old murder case and asking the public for help.

Family members said Kenneth Franklin Miles Jr. was shot at least three times at close range on Oct. 7, 2021, outside of his home on Summerwind Drive at Summerwind mobile home park in Fayetteville. Miles was just 25 years old.

More than two years after Miles' death, no arrests have been made.

After the shooting, Sharon Gilliam, Miles' mother, said the ordeal started with an argument that didn't even involve her son.

"Guy got mad with him because he had it out with another guy," she said. "He approached my son, and they had words, and he was like, 'Man, I don't got nothing to do with that. That's between you and that guy. Whatever y'all got going on.'"

Then, she says, a man shot her son. Detectives believe Miles knew the man.

Miles was known to his family as “Pappa” or “Popeye” and to his friends as “Ali.”

"We just need that one additional piece of information that would may help solve the case," said Sgt. Mickey Locklear with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. "Several people have seen it or even if it's just one or two people that saw something. If they would just provide that, they would give a break in the case to get it solved and bring closure to someone's family."
