Durham narrows search for new police chief

The City of Durham has narrowed its search for a new police chief, according to a press release sent on Monday.

The firm leading the search, Developmental Associates, has chosen 11 candidates out of the 42 that applied.

The 11 applicants will now be contacted and given a writing exercise by Developmental Associates over the next two weeks, city officials said.

Developmental Associates will select 3 to 5 candidates based off of their responses.

The final candidates will meet with police department staff and the public sometime in September, officials said.

Durham's new police chief is expected to start in November.
