As coronavirus cases spread, the advice to avoid crowds is leading organizers to cancel major events.

Billie Eilish kicked off her world tour in Miami on Monday. The 18-year-old singer will play to a sold out crowd at PNC Arena Thursday. Some people, though, are calling for the singer to postpone the show amid the growing concerns over the coronavirus. Some fans are even selling their tickets.

PNC Arena officials said Wednesday that additional measures were being put in place, including more frequent cleaning of the venue and the installing of more hand sanitizers.

Green Day and BTS each canceled concerts due to the coronavirus. Green Day said it would be postponing its shows in Asia, while BTS canceled four concerts in Seoul.

The Raleigh St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival, planned for Saturday in downtown, was canceled Wednesday evening. The parade was scheduled to start at 10 a.m., followed by a festival on Fayetteville Street. Lafayette Village in north Raleigh also canceled its festival, planned March 21.

By Thursday, organizers had called off the Tobacco Road Marathon. As concerns about coronavirus grew, race participants got a letter about additional safety measures were being taken, including more hand sanitizer locations and hand washing stations.

"We take this action with tremendous sadness for our runners who have trained for many weeks for our charity event," said race spokesman Mark Dill.

Also on Thursday, the State Farmers Market canceled its annual Spring Craft Fair, scheduled for Friday-Sunday. The Raleigh Convention Center Boat Show, also scheduled for Friday-Sunday was canceled along with the Starpower National Talent Competition, scheduled for Friday-Sunday at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

The North Carolina Museum of Art announced late Wednesday that it would be postponing its annual Art in Bloom event scheduled for March 19-22. The festival, which celebrates art and flowers, is the museum's largest annual fundraiser.

Those who have already bought tickets will be able to use them for the rescheduled dates, officials said.

The museum park and ticketed spring exhibits remain open. Museum staff have added hand sanitizer, wipes and tissues for visitors and the galleries and campus are undergoing more frequent deep cleanings.

Sporting events see changes as well

A day after saying that games would go on without fans in the stands, ACC officials canceled the remainder of the tournament.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced Thursday afternoon that the men's and women's Division 1 basketball tournaments were being canceled due to the pandemic.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association postponed all high school athletics statewide on Thursday.

The NBA suspended its season after a player tested positive for the virus. The MLB decided to delay opening day by at least two weeks due to the virus and the NHL put its season on "pause."

Dreamville Festival still a go

On Tuesday, Raleigh leaders gathered to discuss upcoming events, including Dreamville Festival. The popular music festival is expected to draw thousands to Dix Park in early April.

In their meeting, Mayor Mary Ann Baldwin and other leaders didn't mention canceling Dreamville but said 80 percent of people who attended the festival last year came from outside of the Wake County area. That includes people from all 50 states and 12 countries.

In a recent Twitter post, Baldwin said the city will work with doctors and rely on "facts not fear" if the decision is made to cancel public events.

On Tuesday, the popular Coachella music festival announced it was being postponed from April to October. The Stagecoach country music festival, also held in California, was also moved to October.

Full Frame canceled

One event that isn't going forward is the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham. Organizers announced via social media Wednesday that the April festival would not be happening this year.

"Yesterday, Duke University cancelled all sponsored events through April 20, 2020, which includes this year’s Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. At this time, we are in the process of notifying filmmakers, sponsors, donors, ticket buyers, and all of our stakeholders," organizers wrote.
