Clayton may be getting a Publix grocery store in the future. Papers were filed with the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality for a 46,000 sq. ft. store in Clayton, NC.
The Publix@Flowers Plantation would be located at NC Hwy. 42 and South Flowers Parkway. That intersection already has a Harris Teeter grocery store and the addition of a Publix to the area would certainly increase the grocery options for residents. The papers for the new Publix location were filed in February and reported by the Triangle Business Journal on April 9, 2019.

In response to a request for more information, Kim Reynolds, Media and Community Relations Mgr. for Publix Super Markets shared, "We continue to seek out new store sites across the region to better serve our customers, yet I cannot confirm and thus don’t have additional details to share."
The next Publix grocery store to open will be near Downtown Raleigh and was confirmed by Publix in July 18. It will be located at the Southeast corner of Peace Street and West Street, but an opening date has not yet been announced.
