Wake Forest just can't catch a break.
The frigid winter weather set back the construction of the town's massive Holding Park Pool complex, a three-pool complex that also will include two water slides. And now the rainy spring has delayed it indefinitely. Officials had hoped to open it in late June or early July.

The project was about 80 percent complete, according to a town press release. But rains on June 10 and June 11 prevented workers from starting the final phase of the construction, which includes pouring the concrete pool deck, installing fencing and applying the remaining pool plastering.
Pictures on Wake Forest's website show the construction site flooded with muddy water. According to the town's website, the site will need a full week of sunny weather to completely dry so work can continue.
Ruben Wall, the town's parks, recreation and cultural resources director, said in the press release that he's disappointed.
"We’re trying to look at the big picture. The original Holding Park Pool served our community well for over 70 years," he said. "We want the new aquatic center to be here for another 70 years, so it’s important we build it the right way.”
Because so much of the project relies on the weather, Wall said that he can't set an opening date.
“Our entire team is working as hard as we can to get the facility open as soon as we possibly can,” said Wall in the town press release. “When that time comes, we look forward to inviting the entire community out for what will be an unforgettable grand opening and dedication ceremony.”
The opening of the town's sprayground was postponed last year because of issues with a subcontractor. It opened for its first full season back in April.
