McCrory signs off on easier grading scale for schools

Gov. Pat McCrory's office announced that he had signed four bills into law Friday, including one that would apply a more lenient standard for grading public school performance.

Schools, which are graded on an A-through-F scale based largely on standardized test scores, would need only attain 85 points for an A and 70 points for a B under the new law. It will remain in effect through the 2015-2016 school year.

Other new laws direct the Department of Transportation to study misuse of handicapped tags, allow for the sale of deer skins and modify the building codes for open air cabins.
