We feature recipes on Go Ask Mom every Friday, but let me emphasize today, this is not something to eat!

This is a recipe for something a little bit like homemade play dough. Instead, it's goo. I learned about this, I'm slightly embarrassed to admit, while watching an old episode of "Wife Swap." This is the show where two women trade lives for a couple of weeks. There always is an outrageous character and a down-to-earth character.

In this episode, as you might have guessed, the down-to-earth mom thrilled the kids of the outrageous mom by making homemade goo. It looked like fun. I Googled it and turned up a bunch of recipes and chose one from HomeTrainingTools.com.

This recipe is so easy, requiring just water, white glue and borax. Food coloring is optional if you want colored slime. I pulled out the craft when we had some friends over and the girls played with it for about an hour, stretching it, rolling it and molding it in all different kinds of shapes.

It's amazing how quickly it comes together. HomeTrainingTools.com explains the science of it. Click here for the description.

Here's how to make it, according to Home Training Tools:

Mix 4 ounces of glue with 1/2 cup water in one bowl. This is where you add the food coloring if you want it. We left it out.

Mix 1 teaspoon Borax with 1 cup water in another bowl until the Borax is dissolved.

Pour the glue mixture into the Borax mixture, stirring slowly.

The goo really does start forming right away. Pretty soon, you can pick it up and roll it around with your hands. Just pour off any excess water.

The substance gets stiffer the more you play with it. I kept it in an air tight container for a couple of weeks for continued slimey fun.
