Craigslist scammers prey on people looking for good deals on the popular classifieds website. A Triangle woman looking for a car found a seller with a sad story but later discovered that the ads and the pictures were fake.

A Garner man was charged with stealing another man's credit cards and racking up nearly $12,000 worth of fraudulent charges.

Russell Adkins, 37, was arrested June 1 by the Johnston County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony financial card theft, felony identity theft and misdemeanor larceny.

In April, a man in Chatham County reported to investigators that he hired Adkins through Craigslist to help him move and later noticed the missing credit cards and charges.

Investigators used bank statements, text conversations, the Craigslist posting and security camera footage to arrest Adkins.

Adkins, who was jailed under a $225,000 bond, was scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro.
