100 mph stolen car chase with 13-year-old driver ends in Raleigh crash, deputies say

13-year-old behind the wheel of car involved in multi-county chase

A 13-year-old driver is in custody after leading deputies on a chase through multiple counties, reaching speeds of 100 mph, according to the Bladen County Sheriff's Office.

The chase ended in a crash Wednesday afternoon at Poole Road and Carver Street in Raleigh when the teenage driver struck a power pole.

According to the sheriff's office, the chase began in Bladen County with a report of a stolen car, when a person reported a man in a ski mask took their car in Elizabethtown, N.C.

A Bladen County deputy saw the car near N.C. 53 and N.C. 242 near Elizabethtown and tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away, reaching speeds of 100 mph.

According to officials, the chase continued down N.C. 53 and onto Interstate 95 North in Cumberland County.

The driver then exited onto Interstate 40, and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Wake County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted with the chase.

After the driver took Exit 300 for Rock Quarry Road, he crashed into a power pole and was taken into custody.

The boy, who was not severely injured, was transported to WakeMed as a precaution and will face juvenile charges once released, according to officials.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, Dunn Police Department, Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol and Wake County Sheriff’s Office all assisted.
