A person was shot by two Carolina Beach police officers on Friday night during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The person was shot at Dolphin Lane Motel at 318 North Carolina Beach Avenue, less than half a mile away from the Carolina Beach Boardwalk entrance. They were transported to a local hospital with injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

The two officers involved in the shooting were not injured. They were placed on administrative leave and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate, per protocol for all officer-involved shootings.

Millions of people were expected to travel this weekend, with many of them headed to North Carolina's coast. It's unclear at this time if the person who was shot was a visitor or a Carolina Beach resident.

Authorities did not say if the person was armed or why they were responding to the area.

The Carolina Beach Police Department's officer-involved shooting comes hours after a Fayetteville police officer shot and killed a woman near her home.
