Search underway for 3 believed to have shot, killed man in Edgecombe Co. robbery

Authorities are searching for three suspects who shot and killed a man while robbing a home in Edgecombe County.

20-year-old John Davis has been identified as the victim.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office tells WRAL News around 12:30 a.m. Monday, Davis was with a group inside a home on Camland Circle east of Sharpsburg.

Investigators say three armed men kicked the home’s door in and demanded money.

Davis was fatally shot in the incident, and the three suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office is now searching for the three men, and trying to determine whether this was random or a targeted attack.

“We are still actively trying to ID the three suspects in this case. We are unable to determine at this time if the suspects and victim knew each other,” Edgecombe County Sheriff Clee Atkinson said. “There were several other people inside the home during this shooting, but we are unable to give out names of these individuals at this time due to the ongoing investigation.”

WRAL News went out to the site of the robbery, located inside the County Line trailer park near Sharpsburg.

Multiple neighbors said they heard gunshots during the night of the attack, but didn't want to speak on camera due to fear of retaliation.

The man who owned the home where the robbery happened also arrived at the scene to move out his belongings. He declined to answer questions about the incident.

WRAL News also reached out to multiple family members of John Davis for a response, but we haven't heard back.

The Edgecombe Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with any information regarding this shooting to contact lead investigator Lt. Tinder at 252-641-7911.
