1 dead from crash along I-95 near Four Oaks

One person was killed in a crash on Interstate 95 in Johnston County on Monday afternoon.

The single-vehicle crash happened in the southbound lanes near Exit 90, close to Four Oaks.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers said a man was driving south when he ran off the right side of the road, struck a road sign and then collided with a large tree.

The driver, Robert Ziccardi, was ejected from the van. Ziccardi died at the scene. He was 63 years old.

Part of the road was closed for several hours.
