Three others remain on the loose after an apparent home invasion on the 900 block of Loop Road in Hoke County.

The sheriff's office there said it knew who the three other suspects were, but did not release names or descriptions.

Deputies say that four men assaulted at least one person before stealing a vehicle and driving away. There was a chase, during which the armed suspects shot at officers, striking their vehicle. No officers were injured.

The suspects then crashed the car near Purvis Court in the Hillcrest area of Raeford and took off running.

Detectives searched the area, found Purcell and took him into custody. He was charged with attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, felony conspiracy, first degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon and larceny motor vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing, and they are still searching for the other three men, who wore full black masks and were armed. On Friday night, authorities asked residents in the Hillcrest area to keep their doors closed and locked.

Victim's daughter say the men beat her dad at her grandmother's house

WRAL News spoke with the daughter of the victim, who said it was her grandmother's home, and her dad was the person who was attacked.

"There were four of them, and they beat my dad with a gun, and with their fists," she said. "Of course, my grandmother, she's very old. She wouldn't be able to do anything."

She says the men were looking for something, and she believes the men may have had the wrong house.
