The Broadway musical "Elf" is headed to the Durham Performing Arts Center this holiday season. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 14.

The show will run from Dec. 4 to Dec. 9 on the Durham stage.

My kids and I love watching the 2003 movie starring Will Ferrell that inspired the Broadway musical. In it, an orphaned baby crawls into Santa's bag and is transported back to the North Pole. Not realizing he's a human despite his enormous size, Buddy, played by Ferrell, grows up thinking he's an elf. Once he realizes the truth, he travels to New York from the North Pole in search of his birth father. Lots of hijinks ensue.

“ELF has become a holiday favorite for so many fans since the movie came out 15 years ago,” said Rachel Traversari, Senior Director of Marketing at DPAC, in a press release. “It’s absolutely hilarious and heart-warming, and to be able to bring this special story to our stage to share with Triangle fans will be a special treat!”

Tickets start at $28.50 plus taxes and fees. Children under 6 are not allowed in the performance.

DPAC's website has more information about the show and tickets.
