CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Despite the storms that moved through the Triangle on Thursday, some people still decided to brave the conditions and attend Halloween on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.

The annual event brings thousands of people each year to the popular strip. On Thursday, many who came out decked in costumes ended up getting wet and running for shelter.

A police officer used a megaphone to tell those on Franklin Street to go inside at one point as the dangerous weather was coming. As the rain fell and the winds blew, people were running to find a way out of the storm.

From The Top of the Hill Restaurant, you could see many people huddled around some of the businesses trying to stay dry. Shortly after the rain stopped, people came out and were determined to continue their night on Franklin Street.

"This is a tradition here," said Maggie Cautle, one of the many who dressed up Thursday. "It only happens once a year. We bought our costumes. We were going to do it."

"I thought you might as well still have fun," said Elena Kaunse, who came out dressed as Mario from Mario Kart. "It was just a little bit of rain. We don't have any crazy costumes."
