DURHAM, N.C. — Crews pulled an empty SUV from Falls Lake in Durham on Thursday that had been stolen the night before.

According to police, officers responded to a call of an armed robbery along South LaSalle Street, not far from Duke University Hospital, Wednesday night around 8:30 p.m.

The owner of the red SUV was approached by two other men, who stole his car at gunpoint. Durham police saw the SUV around 4 a.m. Thursday and attempted to stop the driver, who led officers on a chase to the area of East Geer Street and Redwood Road.

Police said two people inside the SUV jumped out and fled, and the stolen SUV was dumped in Falls Lake, where crews removed it at daybreak.

Four people were being investigated on Thursday morning, police said.
