Kimberly Herndon filed for unemployment benefits in March and she still doesn't know the status of her claim.

She is a server at Texas Steakhouse, and is raising two boys on her waitress wages.

"It's like dealing with a brick wall every day," she said.

She calls the North Carolina unemployment office every day

On a front porch on the edge of Garner....

His online account shows there's an issue, but the only way he can find out what the issue is, is to call.

AS YOU'RE GOING THROUGH THE MENU, AT SOME POINT IT KICKS YOU OUT, BECAUSE IT TELLS YOU THE SYSTEM IS OVERLOADED, AND THERE'S SIMPLY NO ABILITY TO TALK WITH A PERSON, AT THIS TIME, AND THEN THEY DISCONNECT YOU.

Kimberly HerndonYOU CALL EVERY MORNING, YOU GET UP AS SOON AS THE LINE OPENS, AND THEY TELL YOU THE SYSTEM IS BUSY, TO CALL BACK LATER, YOU CALL BACK LATER EVERY HOUR, EVERY 30 MINUTES, AND YOU STILL DON'T GET A RESPONSE. Kerry McComber with the Division of Employment Security sent us this written reply when we asked about these concerns...

“We have been increasing our staff and upgrading our technology in response (to) the unprecedented number of filings we’ve received.”

She goes on to say they should have “800 people on the phones by the end of the week.”

Dooley acknowledges the tremendous work load, but says it's time for him to get benefits.

I KNOW THEY'RE DOING THEIR BEST, BUT IT JUST SHOULDN'T TAKE THIS LONG.
