SELMA, N.C. — A truck driver was seriously injured Monday evening when a large steel part from another truck broke through the truck's windshield, striking the driver in the chest.

The tractor trailer was headed north on Interstate 95 near Selma when a large steel object called a strap winch broke through the windshield and struck the driver in the chest. The strap winch, which is a heavy device used to tighten cargo straps on big trucks, came from another tractor trailer, officials said.

The driver was able to safely pull his truck over and call 911.
