ATLANTA — It's been two years since an NC Highway Patrol trooper was paralyzed in a crash in west Charlotte. Trooper Chris Wooten was pursuing a suspect on his motorcycle when he ran into another vehicle and crashed.

Highway Patrol officials announced on Thursday that Wooten would be leaving a medical facility in Atlanta and returning to his home in North Carolina soon after renovations at Wooten's home in Cramerton wrap up.

"Chris has been a symbol of courage and strength as he has progressed through his recovery after that frightful day," Colonel Freddy Johnson Jr. wrote on Facebook.

In February 2020, Wooten graduated from the Shepherd Center for spinal cord and brain injury in Atlanta.

He was ordained as a minister last November, allowing him to officiate at the wedding of his daughter and her husband.

"Chris is a true warrior who has exemplified the meaning of resiliency throughout this entire recovery process," Johnson wrote.

Johnson encouraged North Carolinians to continue to pray for Wooten's recovery.
