ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A state trooper going to help another officer Saturday night crashed outside Rocky Mount, hitting a power pole guidewire, troopers said.

Trooper B.K. Jones was going to help another trooper pursue suspects who had run away during a traffic stop, troopers said.

Jones lost control of his cruiser while going around a curve on West Mount Drive, near Bethlehem Drive. The vehicle ran off the right side of the road into a wooded area and struck trees and the guidewire to a power pole.

Jones was treated and released from a local hospital.
