FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper was charged with reckless driving and driving while impaired after an ATV accident in Fayetteville.

A spokesman for the State Highway Patrol said Thomas E. Perry was driving an ATV on Snowy Egret Drive when he ran off the road and hit a camper that was parked in a driveway on April 24.

Perry was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

Alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor to the crash, according to a spokesman. The results of the blood test for alcohol are currently pending.

Perry is stationed in Troop B, District 8 in Harnett County, but was off duty when the crash happened. He has been with the Highway Patrol since 2018.

A spokesman said Perry has been placed on administrative duty.
