State school board member found injured in Raleigh home
Paramedics transported Kathy A. Taft, a member of the state Board of Education, to WakeMed on Saturday morning after she was found with serious injuries at a Raleigh home.
Posted — UpdatedPolice spokesman Jim Sughrue said late Saturday that the investigation into how Taft was injured was ongoing.
Taft, who lives in Greenville, was discovered after officers were called to a home at 2710 Cartier Drive, near Oberlin Road. Neighbors said that police had been at the house since around 10 a.m.
Police were in and out of the house throughout the day and blocked off the road but said little about the investigation until late Saturday.
Taft, 62, is in WakeMed's intensive care unit. No additional information about her injuries was available.
Residents said they were concerned by the lack of information about the situation.
"I'm pretty confused with what's going on. We're not really getting much information," resident Jeffrey Albritton said. "All the streets are blocked off, and it's caused quite a ruckus in the neighborhood."
Taft’s term with the Board of Education expires in March 2011. She ran for state Senate in 2008.
