DURHAM, N.C. — Special state prosecutors have the case involving a former Durham County deputy, officials said Tuesday.

Derek O'Mary has been under investigation for almost a year for possible misuse of money used by undercover deputies in drug stings.

The Durham County District Attorney's Office last April requested that the State Bureau of Investigation look into allegations that O'Mary mishandled money.

Undercover officers routinely use money from an account in the Durham County Sheriff's Office to make drug buys that can serve as evidence for criminal charges. There has been no word on how much money might have been misused.
