Police identify victims of deadly crash on Murchison Road in Fayetteville

Top leaders indicated they could be on the verge of a framework Saturday night to end the crisis. It would raise the debt ceiling -- essentially a self-imposed credit limit. The question is: For how long would it be increased? And how would government spending be capped? And will a deal pass with so little time left until potential economic disaster?

Last minute negotiations at the highest level to seal a deal on the debt ceiling. President Biden and House Speaker Kevin mccarthy speaking by phone late Saturday, two sources tell NBC news after lawmakers on Capitol Hill worked overtime this holiday weekend. I feel closer to an agreement now than I did a long time before. I see mccarthy expressing cautious optimism. We are not there yet some things, we just have to finish negotiators getting a slight reprieve from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen who pushed back the estimated date, the US will no longer be able to pay its bills from June 1st to June 5th, a week from Monday. So what's holding the deal up? Democrats want a two year extension on lifting the debt while Republicans are pushing for a shorter extension with spending cuts and caps in place. I think we're all tired, but that doesn't mean that we're willing to just take something that we think is not acceptable. Also at issue work requirements for some federal relief programs like Medicaid and food stamps work requirements. A non negotiable. It would be a death sentence for my district which is the poorest congressional district in America. If the government were to default millions of Americans relying on federal aid, like Social Security would feel the impact including Marilyn and Keith Ayers, both in their eighties without pensions to fall back on. We are the people that need those checks to pay our bills. It was an earned benefit that we earn to have a, a decent retirement time. They say if those payments stop, we'd have to depend on our go into our savings. And, you know, and I'm 87 years old and I don't want to deplete my savings. We don't know what's in the, in our future negotiators now nearing the finish line on a deal, hoping to ease an already nervous Wall Street before markets open back up on Tuesday.

Someone pulled open the exit door on a plane mid-flight. It allegedly happened over South Korea, and the scene was captured on video by terrified passengers bracing for the worst.

Tonight. The heart pounding seconds in the skies above South Korea. Passengers white knuckling through a wind whipped Asiana Airlines flight moments after a man allegedly ripped open the plane's emergency door. Minutes before landing, it is recklessly endangering all the other passengers and crew on the airplanes. Airline officials say the plane carrying 194 passengers was about 700 ft above the ground. When a man in his thirties seated in the exit row was allegedly tinkering with the handle and eventually opened the door. How could a passenger open a door like this while the flight is still up in the air? It can be opened in the last few seconds of flight. So that should on landing, the airplane end up off the side of the runway. You can get the doors open and get the evacuation started at higher altitudes. Cabin pressure helps seal the doors on most planes so it wouldn't open even if someone tried. But just before landing, that pressure is gone and doors are able to be open. An Asiana Airlines representative telling NBC news the plane landed safely following the incident and that nine passengers were taken to the hospital for minor breathing issues. The man who opened the door detained by police. The scare in Korea conjuring a rash of other airborne incidents in the US, spurred by unruly passengers. Earlier this year, a Delta passenger was arrested at LAX after opening the emergency door and sliding off the plane before takeoff. Tonight. Did you just state? I want to be very clear that the attorney general for the State of Texas said he did not want to use his office to help law enforcement. That is exactly what was relayed to us. Paxton, a controversial figure elected Texas Attorney General three times is accusing the House of trying to overthrow the will of the people. They have denied me the opportunity to present the evidence with contradicts their politically motivated narrative. The case of fracturing the Republican Party, both Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz posting on social media in support of Paxton today. While state GOP lawmakers have led the way on impeachment efforts of a little kid.

Hello, everyone and meteorologist Peter Sherwood in the W R E L Severe Weather Center. We're tracking additional rounds of rain today on and off periods of showers will be possible and we're going to make it to 68 degrees. We cannot rule out a few rumbles of thunder but more than anything, we're really just going to see a lot of rainfall. We do have drier conditions moving in for Memorial Day. 74 will be the afternoon high with a 40% chance of rain and that 40% chance of rain will come in later in the afternoon. Let's go ahead and check things out. So we have this area of low pressure that continues to move on shore. This low pressure system is dragging in some drier air to the south and that has helped chewing the system apart, but we're still going to see those showers for today. So if you are heading out, you're going to need the rain gear, we are likely to see round move in from the south east into the north west as we head into the lunch hour and just periods will get going for the rest of the day, likely to see drier conditions move in for the overnight hours. And by tomorrow morning, things are expected to be mostly cloudy heading into the afternoon. Around 12 o'clock, we will be mostly dry. But as we head into the 45 and six o'clock hour, we could see some of those pop up showers and thunderstorms develop. We're still on trend to see about an inch more of rainfall and we are going to get that between today and tomorrow. But keep in mind as we head throughout the day today, there is a low end risk of flooding. We are going to continue to watch some of those low lying areas in poor drainage regions. We are going to make it to 68 degrees today a little bit milder for tomorrow. Highs in the upper seventies as we head into a Tuesday, likely to be back in the eighties by Thursday.
