KENLY, N.C. — The State Bureau of Investigation is examining the Kenly Police Department after a request from the police chief and the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office, the bureau said.

The bureau said Wednesday that additional information wasn’t available because of the ongoing investigation.

Kenly town councilman Trinity Henderson posted on Facebook that an investigation is examining possible falsified police reports and illegal searches.

It's not the first SBI investigation to come to light this week.

The SBI and the FBI have been investigating the Granville County sheriff for months, the Wake County district attorney said Tuesday.

Sheriff Brindell Wilkins was indicted Monday on two counts of obstruction of justice. The grand jury indictment states that he told someone to kill a former deputy, telling the person to "take care of it" and "the only way you gonna stop him is kill him."
