The N.C. Department of Cultural Resources is launching a series of free events at historic sites and museums across the state on the second Saturday of June, July and August.

The family-friendly programs combining the arts and history with food and lots of hands-on activities will be held June 12, July 10 and Aug. 14 at all 37 museums and historic sites. Nearly all are free.

This weekend, the events include an herb, garden and craft festival at Duke Homestead in Durham; a Juneteenth celebration at both Historic Stagville in Durham and the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh; a 170th birthday party at the State Capitol in Raleigh complete with cake; and Rail Days at the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer.
Learn about all of the Second Saturday events by checking out the state's Second Saturday's website.
