State Fair attendance lowest in five years

Total attendance for this year's fair was 938,029 people - down 39,000 from last year, when the fair operated one less day due to bad weather.

RALEIGH, N.C.North Carolina State Fair attendance is the lowest its been in five years.

Total attendance for this year's fair was 938,029 people - down 39,000 from last year, when the fair operated one less day due to bad weather.

The highest attended day of the fair was Saturday, which saw 136,448 people go through the gates. The lowest attendance was on the first day of the fair, Oct. 17, when gates opened at noon.

A breakdown of fair attendance this year:

  • Thursday, Oct. 17: 42,898
  • Friday, Oct. 18: 78,019
  • Saturday, Oct. 19: 111,438
  • Sunday, Oct. 20: 68,538
  • Monday, Oct. 21: 80,167
  • Tuesday, Oct. 22: 50,653
  • Wednesday, Oct. 23: 82,311
  • Thursday, Oct. 24: 116,017
  • Friday, Oct. 25: 94,491
  • Saturday, Oct. 26: 136,448
  • Sunday, Oct. 27: 77,049

The total attendance is also below average for the past 10 years.

Fair organizers posted a message on social media Sunday night thanking people who stopped by the fair this year. They also say to “mark your calendars now" for Oct. 15-25, 2020.
