RALEIGH, N.C. — A group of State Capitol police officers helped pull a litter of kittens out from a storm drain, making a rainy Monday a little less dreary for the young felines and one woman who heard them in distress.

In an email submission to WRAL, Erin Mayabb said she heard three kittens crying from a storm drain near a parking deck downtown. The deck was adjacent to state capitol police headquarters, so fortunately, help wasn't far away.

Together, they pulled three kittens out of the drain that ran under the road along Salisbury Street.

Mayabb said officer Cole Olson spent two hours with her helping get the animals to safety. Sergeant Benjamin Franklin, Sergeant Joe Coley and Officer Richard Sampson also helped with supplies and support.

The kittens will be placed in SAFE Haven for Cats in Raleigh.
