A State Capitol Police officer was hurt while driving on the icy roads on her way to work Friday morning.

N. Galleo was on her way to work at 4 a.m. when she hit a patch of ice, slid off the road and bumped a guard rail on Wade Avenue.

According to officials, Galleo then called 911 and got out of her vehicle to wait for police to arrive. Reports said she was standing behind her stopped vehicle when another car traveling her direction lost control on the ice and into Galleo's parked car, which then hit her and sent her 'flying into the air.'

Along with receiving a hip injury, her leg was broken.

Galleo was taken to Wake Med and, according to officials, she will need surgery.

Her husband is a Sergeant with the NC Highway Patrol, who posted a message on their social media in response, saying, "None of us are immune from the dangers of snow and ice on the roads ... We pray for her quick recovery. Y'all be safe out there."

Galleo's accident is just one of multiple crashes, spin outs and vehicle fires from the icy Friday morning commute.
