The annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers is Saturday, May 14, 2022!

This is such an easy way to donate non-perishable food to our neighbors in need.

All you need to do is leave non-perishable food items in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 14. This is a nationwide food drive, so everyone can participate.
Here in the Triangle, "once the letter carriers return to their Post Office, volunteers are on site to unload the food from the postal trucks, sort the food, and load it into Food Bank trucks returning to our six branches," according to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina website.
Items that are good to donate include canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats, canned tuna, canned beans and soup, whole grain pasta and rice, cereal, peanut butter, juice boxes, hygiene items, paper products, diapers and more. Pop-top cans and microwaveable cups are preferred. Do not include any items in glass bottles. See a list of most needed items on the Food Bank website.
"The Letter Carriers' food drive is held annually on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam. Hunger affects 1 in 8 Americans, including millions of children, senior citizens and veterans. In the 30 years since it began, the food drive has collected about 1.82 billion pounds of food for struggling residents," according to the NALC press release.

If everyone who reads this post donates just one item for this food drive, we could help them collect a ton of food! If you can donate 2 or 3 cans or boxes of food, that's even better.

If you prefer to donate funds to the Food Bank instead of leaving food out, see the details on their website.
