So stop by and get a little bit of what you can get in Memphis right here in north Carolina in Raleigh today. So, um, we were, thank you to the families. There is no family that ever receives a bill from ST jude's treatment for travel housing or food. They can just focus on what matters most keely and that is getting their child well. And that's what the mission is for ST jude is that no child is left behind. Their mission is to cure childhood cancer. 100%. They're getting very close to that. So this is the 60th anniversary of ST jude. Since the start in 1962 childhood cancer had a survival rate of about 20%. We are at I think 80% now. So that is an incredible incredible lead. Four out of five kids survived childhood cancer here in the U. S. But globally that statistic is nowhere near is good. And that is why ST jude is so incredible because any other research that is done at ST jude, any of the funding that you help support that then gets shared with physicians and teams across the world. So any time you're helping ST jude, you're really helping kids globally. Which is really incredible. And we know isn't always the case for other research. So thank you for that. You're absolutely right. Killian. We want to make sure that we have these families were gonna recognize some of the families coming up in. Just a few because we're getting very, very close to the rock. ST jude is more than remarkable. The research institution more than a campus is filled with love and care. And if you've ever seen, if you've ever toured, you see these kids going up and down the hall and when you first came in, you saw the little red wagon, Oh my goodness, these kids are not rolling around in wheelchairs, they're in these wagons and they have their, their, their stuffed toys or whatever they're doing riding around. And they're so incredibly inspirational. I mean, there is no sadness when you walk into ST jude, you're like, wow, okay, they're going through this illness. But instead you walk in and they're happy, they're encouraging you. And that's what it is. These kids are so strong that that's why we have to be here for them. So we're gonna take a moment right now to share with some of those. Um, we have wristbands and everybody get a wristband and everybody stop by and get their wristbands. I want you to raise your hand in the air and I want everybody to look around and see the different colors of the wrist bands. So we know that blue general supporters, purple is for someone who has lost somebody. Uh, yellow is somebody who is a survivor or going through treatment. Read for all of our first responders, our healthcare professionals and family members. So yeah, look at somebody's wristband and maybe talk to them a little bit about their story. And so right now, like I said, we want to make way to recognize some of the people that's here. We want to thank you for that. We want to highlight uh, those. Um, first I'd like to introduce, I think Julianne cats Julian. There she is. She's gonna share a little bit of her experience with pediatric cancer here at ST jude Julian. Welcome. Good morning. What a beautiful day. This weather is crazy. My name is Julianne caps. As you can see. I'm wearing a yellow wristband. So I am a pediatric cancer survivor myself. I am here today because of ST jude and importantly because of people like you who take time out of your day and give of your resources financially in time to donate to ST jude. I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 1984 when I was five years old and I was taken to ST jude for treatment and uh, 2.5 years of chemo, monthly trips to ST jude from north Carolina. All of that was covered by donations. Not just the medicine, but the travel, the housing and the food. My family could focus on taking care of me and helping me get better. And so I am here today because of you. Thank you very much. We are so glad you're here. Thank you so much Julianne. And next up, we want to call Lauren Ryan. Where is Lauren Ryan at Hi Lauren, Yeah, thank you. Hello. My name is Lauren Ryan and I'm a member of S. A. E. S. A. Is an international service organization and we are celebrating this year, 50 years of partnership and supporting ST jude. This is a phenomenal accomplishment and we're super excited to do another 50 years. So my personal family has four generations in E. S. A. And I'm here today to carry on my grandmother's legacy of service to others. I wear a blue wristband because I want every child to have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and live a healthy life. Brandon Washington is my husband over there. I am Ashley Washington. Um this is our daughter Ryan. We have another daughter over there, Riley but Ryan is our strong survivor. Um she was diagnosed, she was diagnosed okay. She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of 3.5 months. Um her fight has just been through and through, but um she is now in remission as of October of 2019 but she is living proof that your donations, your love, your support, um sharing that ST you does for us. Um when we were working with dude was just amazing and we just thank them so so much. Um so thank you for your donations. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your love and we are just so so thankful and she shows us how to survive every single day. So thank you. Thank you so much to the Washington family. Beautiful stories to share. Alright, we're gonna stay far apart. We like each other. So we're back that Yes, it is over. Alright, so we're getting pretty close, we're getting very close now. Um we want to just remind you of a few things as you get started to run, make sure you stay to your right hand side because we don't want you to spread across the entire street. They're gonna be other people. Some of us walk run slower than others. That would be me. Um So, if you keep to your right, those who are going really, really fast, we'll be able to come back on the other side. There is going to be, I think a bike um that's going to start you off with the runners. So, as we get ready to count down in just a few, we want those runners to kind of follow that bike and just make sure as you come across. I think Team W alexander, when you make that right hands turn, make sure you just stay to the right, we just want to make sure that everyone's safe while we're doing this walk run keely Yes, I know, gonna kind of do the rules, the boring stuff before we get to the fun run and why don't we start moving over to the starting point, it's gonna be the time to walk and run. Good morning. I'm meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. Boy, it was a wet day yesterday, especially for our western counties. A lot of folks east of the Triangle really didn't see much rain yesterday. A cold front will continue to slide eastward and help to push more of that rain eastward across North Carolina. So our eastern counties that didn't see any rain yesterday have a much better chance of seeing it today. This morning, the bulk of the rain has been from the Triangle area northward or westward. But watch what happens as we get closer to lunchtime, we start to see more of that rain filling in in our eastern counties along the I 95 Corridor and that continues through the afternoon. There's 3 p.m. there's 5 p.m. And then after that, once we get past sunset, we begin to see the rain tapering off with a bit of a drier period overnight. First thing tomorrow morning, just a few isolated showers should be a fairly dry morning commute. But then once we get into the middle of the afternoon, we start to see more rain development and more thunderstorms too. So we're looking pretty wet during the late afternoon through the evening, commute all the way up until around midnight or so. And then the precipitation changes just keep on coming. 70% today. 40% Monday, 30 Tuesday, 20 Wednesday, 40 Thursday, we have rain in the forecast. At least some rain in the forecast doesn't mean everybody is going to see rain but some rain in the forecast all the way through next Saturday. Take a look at and you can see it is wet out there. Temperatures this morning have been in the upper sixties and then climbing into the seventies. Getting closer to lunchtime, checking out our uh high temperature for this afternoon, 77 and the trang 77 is actually normal for this time of year. It's just we were so warm last week, 75 Durham, 80 degrees in Fayetteville for the highs today, we are looking, of course, we've had a cooler weekend, our normal high 77 we're seeing 77 and then we really warm up again by the middle of next week, looking at a high of 92 on Wednesday and 91 on Thursday. Of course, that's way above normal. Again, we continue to see our wet pattern at least on and off with a chance of showers and thunderstorms through Saturday. But a little sneak peek at Mother's Day looks gorgeous. We should see highs in the mid seventies with some sunshine and drier conditions.
