St. Aug's track team honored by City of Raleigh

Saint Augustine's University's track program was honored by Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane and the Raleigh City Council Tuesday through a proclamation declaring the day "George Williams and Saint Augustine's University Track & Field Team Day."

RALEIGH, N.C. — Saint Augustine’s University’s track program was honored by Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane and the Raleigh City Council Tuesday through a proclamation declaring the day “George Williams and Saint Augustine’s University Track & Field Team Day.”

Saint Augustine’s men’s and women’s track teams won the 2014 CIAA indoor title and the men also won the NCAA Division II national indoor championship. Head Coach George Williams was named the 2014 USTFCCCA Division II Men's National Indoor Coach of the Year and the 2014 CaptainU Division II Indoor Track & Field National Winter Coach of the Year. Senior DeJon Wilkinson was named the 2014 USTFCCCA Division II Men's National Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.

The men are ranked No. 1 in the latest USTFCCCA Men's Division II National Outdoor Track & Field Rankings and are the defending outdoor national champions. The women are ranked seventh.

Under Williams, the track program has won 34 NCAA Division II national championships.
