The woman told detectives she was asleep on the couch at her Spring Avenue Extension home when she awoke to find a man with his hand over her mouth and a knife to her throat. The man promised not to hurt her if she stayed quiet and gave him money.
The man stole a bank envelope with $700 in cash – the woman's entire Social Security check earnings for the month – and fled on foot down a dirt road toward Spring Avenue, authorities said.
The sheriff's office did not release a description of the man or any other information about the case.
